I was here this evening, for the first time- for dessert. Wow! Their butter cake is phenomenal!! We also shared a drink- the Lillit Rose- might be my favorite cocktail I've ever had! I hope to have a full meal here sometime!
Cincinnati, here I come... I chose Losanti for my first dinner spot. It's located in the "Over the Rhine" neighborhood. Thank you for the brilliant welcome old fashioned! Very well balanced and not too sweet. Just the way I like it. Elijah Craig didn't hurt. This spot is named in honor of the city's founding name, Losantiville, which combines words in four languages to mean "the city across from the mouth of the Licking River." I sat on the patio and ordered the Caesar salad with tons of shaved parm. And you know I got the swordfish. We're at a steakhouse and steakhouses over compensate for their fish dishes and this is just more evidence of that. The swordfish had a Mediterranean flare with olives and capers. Delicious. I'm judging you if you don't get the skillet cookie.
The ambiance, the food, and the service was very good! This was a first time try for me and my daughter, but we were there to celebrate my sister's birthday who had been there previously. She and her daughter helped recommend excellent choices for us, and they were right! Everything was delicious!
Looking for an Italian steakhouse in Cincinnati look no further! First off love the location of the restaurant, it's near many bars and Washington park. The restaurant had a relaxing lowlit intimate ambiance which I enjoyed. You can dine indoors or on the patio if the weather permits. It's very easy to make and get reservations for this restaurant which I liked. We celebrated a birthday at the restaurant we were able to sample a bit of the menu from their cocktails, giant meatballs which were amazing although the focaccia was a little charred, and amazing house made pasta with delectable tomatoes in the sauce and ribeye and Mac and cheese. Plenty to go for leftovers split between two people. Overall the service was decent. The waitress had great recommendations and knowledge of the menu, however it was a busy night and the drinks took a bit to arrive as well as the food but our server kept checking in and made sure me met our time constraint due to a following event after our dinner.
The Mr. and I had a lovely pre-theatre dinner here a few weeks ago. I've been hearing great things about Losanti over the past few yeas and felt this visit was long overdue. As it was a last minute reservation, we were relegated to the back, enclosed outdoor dining area. At first, it was a bit chilly so I requested assistance and our wonderful waitress turned on the heat lamp directly above our table and all was well again! For starters, we shared the burrata which was prepared quite differently with raisins. I would have appreciated a bit of crunch such as actual walnut pieces but it was tasty nonetheless. He went with the filet mignon and I the gnocchi and we shared a side of the charred broccoli. His filet was prepared correctly and had the perfect amount of char. My gnocchi was creamy although I felt the cream to pasta mixture was a bit unbalanced (not enough gnocchi.) The charred brocoli was a winner. I've never has such airy, crispy broccoli that tasted nearly identical to crispy Brussels sprouts. I always appreciate a restaurant being able to create mocktails when not a part of the regular drink menu (although it wouldn't take much to add a section.) I opted for the Queen Bee and the thyme really stood out and was refreshing. For dessert we had to try the butter cake which was as expected (soft, warm and huge). I ended the meal with a perfect cappuccino that was thankfully not lukewarm which many restaurants tend to do. Thanks Losanti and I'll be back to try a few other dishes for sure!
Oh my lord! I know that the first time I came here I ordered a pasta dish and I wasn't impressed so this time we chose a different route. Their espresso martini was a perfect mixture of espresso and cream / baileys. I ordered it a second time, since I loved it so much. We started with the salad - the fruity one with candied walnuts. I didn't think a salad could be that good! The crab cake was divine but the asparagus and sauce really stole the show / was a nice unexpected surprise. I could eat that dish everyday. My husband ordered the French onion soup. I don't even like French onion soup and it was fantastic - and a work of art. Moving on to the main. Since we ordered starters and drinks, we chose to split and entree. They were out of the petite filet so we discussed doing the next smallest size, a 7 oz. It was really good as well as the mashed potatoes. That dang butter cake is so good. We were so full and even took leftovers home but still had to order the butter cake. My one gripe, and deducting of a star is because of the bill and the expectations that we discussed. Since they were out of the petite filet, we agreed to upsize to a 7 oz. Not only did the bill charge for an 8oz, which was already $7 additional but then we were also charged $6-8 (can't remember exactly) for toppers and sauce that was included in the price of the petite filet. If I had known that we would really be paying and additional $15, then we would have ordered something else.
Oh my gosh. Eat here. Just do it. Brought my wife here for her birthday dinner after it being recommended and it did not disappoint. We started with Flapjack Point oysters from Puget Sound WA, a burrata "salad", then shared the petite filet au poivre served over mashed potatoes, Gorgonzola creamed greens, and Brussels sprouts. Literally everything was so good. My favorites were the mashed potatoes and the Brussels sprouts but honestly, everything was delicious. The meat is served on the rarer side of whatever you order but very tender. If I came back, I'd order everything the same except maybe the burrata. The flavor combo wasn't my favorite, so maybe just a more traditional salad next time. For dessert, we ordered their butter cake because we heard that it was a must have. And really.... I mean, I don't like butter cake and was kind of forcing myself to at least try it to say that I did. I took one bite and had to put my fork down and my hands up in surrender because it was the most delicious thing I've eaten in a good, long while. I just can't get over how good it was. If I wasn't so full, I would have eaten that entire thing. And it was huge. And fantastic. I enjoyed my whole meal but that butter cake just far surpassed my expectations. My 4.5 went up to a 5 for that dessert. And now that I've way oversold the whole thing, you should lower your expectations and just try it for yourself. Service was good but got a little slow. Food took a long while to come out and then it felt like they forgot about us, both before and after dessert. Nice staff, delicious food and I will most definitely be back if I'm ever in Cincinnati again.
It was my 60th birthday and we chose Losanti as our place to celebrate. They knew it was my birthday, but other than wishing me "Happy Birthday", there was no other acknowledgement. It was a let down. I wasn't looking for a freebie, but something... even a candle in my dessert, would have been nice. All that said and as disappointed as I was, I need to review Losanti for the overall dining experience. First, the restaurant is quite beautiful, yet comfortable. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. They helped ensure we got a lovely non-alcoholic cocktail. It was a nice start to the evening. I ordered the Prime Steak Tartar appetizer because that is really my thing. I don't really know what it is, but I like raw food. Tartar and sashimi always top my list of favorite foods. The Prime Steak Tartar at Losanti was fantastic. Plating was gorgeous, the bread was flavorful. It was a highlight of the evening. We also had an anchovy appetizer, which must have been a special. I don't see it on the menu. It was delicious! I had a small filet for dinner. It was cooked perfectly and like butter. And it was served with roasted garlic... OMG! Mark ordered the Orecchiette, which was creamy and flavorful. It was a nice sized serving. We ordered the Marsala Roasted Mushrooms as a side. Absolutely fantastic. Then it was time for dessert. Okay, we had a lot to eat up to this point, but the desserts were huge! I am not sure I can complain about a huge dessert other than to say at this point I had to leave some behind. Mark had Mama's Skillet Cookie and I had the Butter Cake. The Butter Cake was as big as my head! LOL As good as it was, I could not finish it. Mark enjoyed his cookie and gelato. We grew up in Cincinnati. We moved to California 2014 - 2021. A lot has changed in downtown Cincinnati since 2014. That's why I opted to stay downtown for a week during my birthday. Losanti is very good, but there so many other restaurants we need to try. As good as it was, we may not be back for a while. That said, Losanti will remain on our list of good restaurants in downtown Cincinnati.
My husband and I spent our 5 year anniversary here and my gosh did we have a fantastic dinner! The steak was cooked to the perfect temperature but slightly too salty for me, the kale salad was out of this world good (honestly couldn't believe how much we loved it), the Brussels had a great flavor however I would leave off the bacon next time and the truffle Mac was delicious. Becca was our server and she provided amazing service and constantly checked in with us. The restaurant is pretty small but it has some cozy vibes. I was a little disappointed it wasn't as nice as Five on Vine their sister restaurant for the type of food that is offered here. Nonetheless we will be back and looking forward to our next visit!
